Human Rights Day 2019

Human Rights Day

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year. Adopted on 10th December 1948, the Declaration designates universal values and a shared standard of achievement for everyone in every country. Human rights are the right to live, liberty, equality and respect of any human being.

Today we celebrate Human Rights Day. I cannot help myself but think of the people who are still persecuted for who they are. We live in a time where people still have to mobilise and shout "Black Lives Matter", a world where people are still hated and attached for their religion and choice of lifestyle.

I believe in the promise of a better world, yet here I am in the 21st century and people are still fighting to for the most basic rights. As I posted "happy Human Rights Day" in one of my social platforms, I stopped and thought about my life. I am most grateful for my life and the freedoms I get to enjoy. However, people continue to be repressed, beaten or killed. Despite the efforts to protect human rights, a lot of people don't enjoy their rights and are killed when they try to express them.

As you are reading this blog, there are people trapped in conflict zones; men, women and children who die as a result of human right violations. I advocate for everyone to stand up for their rights and the rights of others. Let's use our freedom to seek justice, equality, peace and freedom for everyone.

Happy Human Rights Day
